In an autologous transplantation setting the patient is his/her own donor. An autologous transplantation is a less severe treatment with fewer complications, because it is one's own blood system that is reinfused. Therefore patients with a poor condition, not eligible for an allogeneic transplant, could still be considered for an autologous transplantation. However, a major disadvantage of this therapy is the high risk of cancer relapse. There are several causes for this high relapse rate, including the presence of cancer cells in the transplant.
Reviroc™ was designed to specifically eliminate cancer cells from transplants for autologous transplantations. This allows the use of a “clean” transplant devoid of any cancer cells. Reviroc™ aims to improve autologous transplantation outcomes, by decreasing relapse related mortality.
